Brushing your teeth twice a day is something we all do. But if you are still using a manual toothbrush, you might be missing out on what modern oral care can really deliver.
Electric toothbrushes have completely changed the game. With sonic motors producing tens of thousands of vibrations per minute, they clean far more effectively than any manual brushing. Many dentists now recommend switching to electric models, not just for cleaner teeth, but for healthier gums and better long-term oral health.
The difference is not just theoretical. In our hands-on testing, the results show up quickly — whiter teeth, less gum bleeding, and noticeably fresher breath within days.
And with research increasingly linking oral health to overall wellbeing, including cognitive health, upgrading your brushing routine is no longer just about your smile.
To find out which models are actually worth your money, we spent weeks testing some of the most popular electric toothbrushes. We compared cleaning performance, battery life, build quality, and app experience — because not all models deliver on their promises, and the differences are bigger than you might expect.
5 Benefits of Using an Electric Toothbrush
Superior Plaque Removal
Electric toothbrushes use high-frequency vibrations or rotations to break up plaque more effectively than manual brushing, helping keep teeth cleaner with less effort.
Healthier Gums
Built-in pressure sensors and consistent motion reduce the risk of over-brushing, leading to less gum irritation and helping prevent gum disease.
Built-in Timer for Better Habits
Most electric toothbrushes include a 2-minute timer and pacing alerts, ensuring you brush for the dentist-recommended duration every time.
Easier and More Consistent Brushing
With automated movements, electric toothbrushes do most of the work for you, making it easier to maintain proper technique and reach difficult areas.
Noticeably Whiter Teeth
By removing surface stains more efficiently, electric toothbrushes can help improve tooth brightness and give you a cleaner, more polished smile over time.
What to look for ?
High-Frequency Sonic Motor
A strong motor is the foundation of any good electric toothbrush. Look for models delivering at least 30,000 vibrations per minute. Anything below that and you are paying a premium for what amounts to a slightly better manual brush. The motor is where cleaning power comes from, so do not compromise here.
Built-In Water Flosser
A standalone toothbrush only cleans the surfaces of your teeth. A built-in or bundled water flosser reaches between teeth and beneath the gumline where bristles cannot go. This combination removes more plaque and bacteria than brushing alone. It is the closest you can get to a professional clean at home.
Multiple Cleaning Modes
Different teeth and gum conditions require different approaches. A good combo should offer at least 3-4 brushing modes and multiple flossing pressure settings. Sensitive teeth need gentle care, while coffee stains need a whitening mode. Flexibility is key for the whole family.
Pressure Sensor & Smart Timer
Brushing too hard can damage your gums and enamel over time. A built-in pressure sensor alerts you when you are applying excessive force, helping protect your oral health. A smart timer with 2-minute tracking and quadrant pacing also ensures you brush evenly and for the right duration.
Long Battery Life
Nothing is more frustrating than a toothbrush that dies mid-brush or a flosser that needs charging every few days. Look for at least 3 weeks of battery life on the toothbrush and a powerful rechargeable battery on the flosser. This also matters for travel.
We rated each electric toothbrush across 10 key criteria:
- Sonic motor performance
- Water flossing power & versatility
- Brushing & flossing modes
- Timer & pressure sensor accuracy
- Battery life & charging
- Build quality & waterproofing
- Included brush heads & tips
- Travel design & portability
- Ease of use (no app required)
- Overall value for money
After testing over 30 electric toothbrush models, we noticed something interesting. Most sonic toothbrushes use very similar core components. The same type of sonic motors, the same DuPont bristle materials, and often the same factory-built timer circuits.
Yet prices range from £40 to over £300. The difference? Mostly branding and marketing budgets. Big names charge a premium for their logo, not better internals.
One model stood out to us. It packed a 38,400 VPM sonic motor, a full cordless water flosser, 5 brushing modes, 4 flossing modes, a pressure sensor, and 4 replacement brush heads. All at a fraction of what established brands charge for the same tech.
The lower price did not come from cheap parts. It came from skipping costly ad campaigns and celebrity endorsements. The budget went into sensors and software instead.
That is smart engineering. And as testers, we respect performance over packaging every time.

REVIEW
After comparing a wide range of electric toothbrush and water flosser sets, many options felt incomplete—either the toothbrush lacked power, the flosser offered limited control, or essential accessories had to be purchased separately. The Noventrixa Sonic Electric Toothbrush & Water Flosser Combo stands out as a more complete and practical oral-care system.
The toothbrush feels thoughtfully designed for everyday use. Its magnetic levitation motor delivers up to 38,400 sonic strokes per minute, while five brushing modes make it easy to adjust the intensity for daily cleaning, sensitive teeth or more thorough polishing. The ultra-fine DuPont bristles are designed to reach around the gumline and between teeth without feeling excessively harsh.
Daily brushing is also straightforward. The built-in 2-minute automatic timer encourages the recommended brushing duration, while the 30-second pacing reminders prompt users to move to the next section of the mouth. Mode memory automatically recalls the previous setting, so there is no need to reselect it every time.
The separate water flosser is what makes this package feel like a genuine upgrade over a standard electric toothbrush. It provides four adjustable intensity modes and a pressure range of 40–120 PSI, allowing users to choose between gentler gum care and stronger interdental cleaning. Its rotating nozzle and precise water stream are designed to clean between teeth and around areas that brushing alone may not easily reach.
The included four nozzle types also make the flosser more versatile. The package contains tips for standard cleaning, orthodontic care, periodontal cleaning and tongue cleaning. A large 300 ml water reservoir provides enough capacity for a complete routine without constant refilling.
Battery performance is another strong point. The toothbrush uses an inductive wireless charging base and is rated for approximately 25–40 days per full charge, while the water flosser supports convenient Type-C charging and provides around 50–80 uses per charge. Both devices are IPX7 waterproof, making them suitable for normal bathroom use and easy rinsing after each session.
The overall package is unusually complete. It includes the sonic toothbrush, four replacement brush heads, a travel case, wireless charging base, water flosser, four specialised nozzles and a Type-C charging cable. This removes the need to purchase separate accessories immediately after opening the box.
What really sets it apart is the balance of performance and value. Instead of paying separately for a premium sonic toothbrush and a capable water flosser, Noventrixa combines both devices into one coordinated package with adjustable settings, long battery life and a broad selection of accessories.
Bottom line: For anyone looking to upgrade from basic brushing to a more complete daily oral-care routine, the Noventrixa combo offers a powerful toothbrush, a versatile water flosser and nearly everything needed in one box.

REVIEW
The iO Series 10 is their most advanced consumer toothbrush and it comes loaded with technology. AI-powered 3D teeth tracking, an interactive colour display on the handle, 7 brushing modes, and a magnetic drive system make this feel like the most connected toothbrush on the market.
The round brush head is unique to Oral-B and it oscillates, rotates, and pulsates for thorough coverage. The 360° smart pressure sensor changes colour from green to red if you push too hard, which is genuinely useful for protecting enamel.
We tested the AI 3D tracking feature over two weeks using the Oral-B App. While the real-time zone monitoring looked impressive on screen, it required keeping your phone propped up nearby during every brush session. For most people, that novelty wears off fast. After the first week, every tester in our group stopped opening the app.
In our plaque removal test with disclosing solution, the iO Series 10 cleaned surfaces well but again, with no water flosser included, it left visible residue between teeth. You are paying £400 for a toothbrush alone.
The proprietary iO brush heads are another concern. Standard Oral-B heads do not fit. Only iO-specific replacement heads work, and they cost £10-15 each. Over a year, you could spend another £40-60 just on heads.
The magnetic charging travel case is premium and well-built, but the included 2-pin UK charger means you need an adapter in most bathrooms. That is an odd oversight at this price point.
For technology enthusiasts who want the absolute latest features, the iO Series 10 delivers. But at this price for a toothbrush with no flosser, the cost-to-benefit ratio is hard to justify.
Pros
- AI-powered 3D teeth tracking is genuinely innovative
- Interactive colour display on handle
- 7 smart brushing modes for full customisation
Cons
- Expensive for a toothbrush only — no water flosser or flossing tips
- Proprietary iO brush heads are expensive and mandatory
- AI app features become tedious, most users abandon them within a week
- Expensive

Philips Sonicare is a name most people recognise, and the DiamondClean 9900 is one of their flagship models. The 62,000 sonic pulses per minute is impressive on paper, and the ombre handle design gives it a premium look that stands out in any bathroom.
The Sonicare App with Bluetooth connectivity provides detailed brushing reports and personalised coaching. The gum pressure sensor is responsive and the BrushSync head detection is a clever touch that alerts you when your brush head is worn.
We tested it head-to-head against several competitors using disclosing tablets after 2 minutes of brushing. The DiamondClean performed well on flat tooth surfaces but left more residual plaque in tight interdental gaps. That is because it has no water flosser at all. You still need a separate flossing device.
In our battery test, it managed 12 days of twice-daily use.
At this price, you are paying for a toothbrush only. No water flosser, no flossing tips, and just one brush head in the box. Factor in replacement heads at £15-23 each and the annual running cost adds up fast.
Build quality is solid, but the charging glass stand, while elegant, is fragile and not practical for travel. The USB travel case is a nice addition, but it cannot replace what a complete oral care kit provides.
For dedicated Philips fans who already own a separate flosser, this is a capable toothbrush. But for the price, the value falls short against 2-in-1 combos that include everything in one box.
- 62,000 sonic pulses per minute for powerful surface cleaning
- Sonicare App with Bluetooth for personalised brushing insights
- Premium ombre handle design with charging glass
Cons
- No water flosser included — toothbrush only.
- Only 1 brush head in the box — replacements are expensive
- Battery lasted 12 days in our tests, shorter than advertised

REVIEW
Soocas made a name at CES 2025 with the NEOS II, a 2-in-1 sonic toothbrush with a built-in water flosser packed into a single handle. The concept is clever and the execution is stylish. A tiny 50ml water tank is integrated into the handle, and the device alternates between brushing and flossing during a single session.
The Deep Clean mode starts with 2 minutes of sonic brushing, then automatically switches to 1 minute of water flossing. The 124.3 PSI peak water pressure is strong, and the 0.6mm ultra-fine water stream does reach between teeth.
However, this is where the experience gets complicated. We tested the NEOS II for three weeks and found the water tank too small for a full flossing session. At 50ml, it ran dry in roughly 60 seconds. That is barely enough for half of the mouth before needing a refill.
We also found the automatic mode switching frustrating. Once the 2-minute brush timer finishes, the NEOS II forces you into floss mode. You cannot continue brushing for longer if you want to. That lack of control is a real drawback for anyone with specific brushing routines.
The water flossing pressure was too intense for two of our testers, who reported sore gums after the first two weeks. Even on the Gentle setting, the concentrated stream felt aggressive compared to the more adjustable pressure on dedicated water flossers.
At this price, it is the most expensive 2-in-1 option we tested. Only 2 brush heads are included, and the proprietary flossing heads are not compatible with any third-party alternatives, making ongoing costs high.
Pros
- Innovative 2-in-1 design — brush and floss in one compact handle
- 30-day battery life from a single charge
Cons
- Expensive for a product with a 50ml water tank
- Automatic mode switching removes user control over brushing time
- Water pressure too intense for sensitive gums, even on Gentle setting

REVIEW
Laifen burst onto the oral care scene as a tech brand, and the Wave is their debut electric toothbrush. It has generated serious buzz online, and the stainless steel build quality is genuinely impressive. It feels like a premium product the moment you pick it up.
The standout feature is the dual-action brushing system. It combines 66,000 vibrations per minute with a 60° oscillating motion, which Laifen claims mimics the dentist-recommended Bass technique. On paper, that is more powerful than both Philips Sonicare and Oral-B.
We tested the Wave for four weeks and the cleaning performance was strong on tooth surfaces. Our disclosing tablet test showed good plaque removal on flat areas and around the gumline.
However, the Laifen Wave has no water flosser at all. Like the Philips and Oral-B, it is a toothbrush only. For £130, you are still missing half of your oral care routine. After our disclosing tests, visible plaque remained in interdental spaces that only water flossing or manual floss could address.
There are also some quirks. The timer and smart features are not enabled by default. You need to download the Laifen App and activate them manually, which feels like an unnecessary step. The higher vibration settings are almost unusable because the brush bounces off your teeth at maximum intensity.
The lack of a pressure sensor is a notable omission at this price. Both Philips and Oral-B include one, and for a toothbrush that can generate this much power, not having a safety mechanism to prevent overbrushing is a concern.
The 30-day battery life and stainless steel construction are real positives. But the proprietary magnetic charging cable is easy to misplace and is not USB-C, which feels dated for a modern tech brand.
For those who want a powerful standalone toothbrush with stylish design, the Wave delivers. But at £130 with no flosser, no pressure sensor, and app-dependent features, the overall package trails behind more complete kits that cost less and include both brushing and flossing.
Pros
- Stainless steel build quality feels premium and durable
Cons
- No water flosser included
- No pressure sensor to prevent overbrushing at high power
- Proprietary magnetic charger (not USB-C, easy to lose)
- Overall value weaker compared to cheaper all-in-one combos
Our Featured Picks
Review:
After testing multiple electric toothbrush, the Noventrixa stood out as our featured pick. It combines a 38,400 VPM sonic motor, 5 brushing modes, 4 flossing modes, and a fully integrated cordless water flosser — all at a price far lower than most premium brands.
In our battery test, it lasted up to 39 days on a single charge, nearly three times longer than the Philips Sonicare DiamondClean 9900 in our real-world use. Features like a pressure sensor, smart timer, and IPX7 waterproof design are typically only found in products costing two to three times more.
The value extends to what’s included. With 4 brush heads and 4 flossing tips, you’re covered for over a year without needing replacements. The included travel case and travel bag also make it ideal for both holidays and business trips.
Build quality feels premium, backed by a 2-year warranty and CE/RoHS certification, making it a reliable long-term choice. Meanwhile, many big-name brands charge significantly more for just a toothbrush — often without a water flosser included.
Bottom line: If you want professional-level oral care without paying premium prices, the Noventrixa is the one we recommend.
